New York was not the first city to create a train network in the United States, but construction was fast, and soon the subway became the country’s largest public transit system. The way a city is designed can make hot weather feel even worse. The temperature on your block is influenced by everything from the number of trees on the street to the color of the pavement. When trees and vegetation (which absorb heat) are replaced by buildings and roads (which can radiate heat), it feels hotter. "The heat island effect can result in significant temperature differences between rural and urban areas," explains the Environmental Protection Agency.Climate Central, an organization of scientists and journalists focused on studying the impacts of climate change, broke down 44 cities into Census blocks to determine which neighborhoods suffer from the worst urban heat effects. In some cities, like Indianapolis, Albuquerque and San Jose, the worst impacts are concentrated in the cities' downtown cores. In other cities, like Dallas, Detroit and Pho...

Lana Del Rey shows Taylor Swift-like connection with fans at Outside Lands Lana Del Rey wowed fans on Day 2 of Outside Lands, performing a roughly 75-minute set that visibly connected with the huge crowd gathered to watch the pop star headline the festival’s Twin Peaks stage on Aug. 12.Some fans appeared close to tears, so moved by the elegant and ethereal nature of the music as Del Rey moved through tracks from at least seven studio albums from her amazing catalog. The most dramatic parts of her set — and there were plenty to choose from — came when the crowd pretty much took over on lead vocals, passionately belting out a number like “Summertime Sadness” like it was the single most important song in the history of mankind.Well, the single most important until Del Rey sang the next number, of course. She showed a near-Taylor Swift-like connection to her fans during her winning set.Lana del Rey – did you know that there’s a tunnel under ocean blvd #OutsideLands pic.twitter.com/6zCdRMNjUw— MORE (@mrmorevlogs) August ...
